Mice destroying your car?

Mice can wreak havoc on your vehicle, chewing wires and pipes and cause you costly repairs!

Have a read of what you can do to deter mice!

It’s no secret that we are amidst a mice plague in Australia and your car is not safe either!

Mice enjoy living in your car as its dry, warm, and dark! They are attracted to your heating, ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC).

We are seeing a lot of our customer’s cars showing signs of mice (some even come for the trip to the mechanic to visit us with your car).

Nests can look a little bit like a bird’s nest and common materials used are leaves, sticks and your filters in your car.

Mice are particularly attracted to electrodes (like your battery) as it means there is water nearby!

So how do you protect your car from mice?

  1. You can use conventional baits and pop them in your engine bay. But these can also provide a slow death to the rodent and harm other animals like dogs and cats.
  2. Keeping your bonnet up can deter rodents as it no longer provides a dark spot for them to hide. This is a good tip if your car sits for extended periods.
  3. Keep food, like animal pellets, away from your car as the rodents take the food and store it in your car (like in your filter cavities and in under your dash).
  4. You can also use electronic deterrents which send out an ultrasonic wave which irritates the rodent and makes them uncomfortable to be around

A bit late and you’re already experiencing some unpleasant smells?

You may have a dead mouse in your car. In that case, we can remove the rodent, clean, deodorise and sanitise your car!

Having your vehicle serviced regularly will allow your mechanic to inspect your vehicle for rodent damage and let you know. This will help avoid damage or pick up on damage quickly before it comes a costly exercise.
